企業と親切心というタイトルで、現代の企業の精神についてのディスカッションをしています。なかなか頭に入りにくい話題でした。

気になる言い回し

・grandstand（動詞）  スタンドプレーをする（スタンドプレーは和製英語）
cf. 名詞はgrandstanding
    political grandstanding, etc.
ex. The opposition party said cutting taxes are just grandstanding to win the vote.

・supposedly  ここは、「建前として」
「言われているところによると」「推定では」の意味もある。
　　ex. He was fired for supposedly falsifying resume.

・prod
ex. Her mother prodded her to go into medicine.

・The way I see it、　　私が思うには

・invalidate(V) / invalid (a.)
ex. Failure to pay by June 1st will invalidate the contract.

・pose as ～　　～のフリをする
ex. pose as his grandchild.

・do-gooder
空想的社会改良家、慈善家ぶった人

・for base commercial reasons,
  base・・・底にある、根底にある

・as opposed  to ～
ex. Karen is a little shy as opposed to Jenifer who is much bolder.

・chosen at random
ex. Winners will be chosen at random.
   = Winners will be chosen in a random drawing.
 
・word-of-mouth
ex. This restaurant has built up its clientele mostly through word-of-mouth. It cannot afford a lot of advertising.
ex. word-of-mouth effect

・at large （全体として）　　野放しで/逃亡しているの意味もある
ex. society at large （社会全体）

・voucher
1.証明書、証拠物件、保証人
2.領収書、証票、料金預かり証
3.無料のサービスや割引が受けられる券、割引券、商品引換券◆商店で一定金額以上の買い物をしたときにもらえる
